Sweet Dreams

Last night I heard Kaden's TV going around 10:30 so I knew he was up. I finished up the homework I was doing and went in to turn it off. Here is the position I found him asleep in. I thought it was priceless. The good part was that he had already fallen back asleep :)

Frosty the Snowman

Today the boys made a snowman. One arm was a good sized stick they found and the other was a little twig, so Frosty was a bit gimpy. After we assembled him the boys started to take him apart again putting parts in various places. I don't know how long he will last though; today the high is 60 degrees. Kaden kept taking his jacket off it is so warm. Hows that for global warming? I am ready for Spring though so bring it on Mother Nature!

Got Sled?

Today our neighbor Tommy got out his 4-Wheeler and took the kids for a sleigh ride. They had so much fun. Trace didn't want to get off. Kaden was a bit iffy about the whole situation so Trace held onto him for dear life to make him feel safe (you can see in in a photo, all you see is Kadens jacket because his head is snuggled into Trace). Kaden helped Tommy drive for a bit; the snow was a little to cold for him after awhile. I think they are going to be sad when the snow melts away. Yesterday Britt took Trace out with Tommy; Kaden was napping so his missed out on the fun yesterday but enjoyed the ride today! Also today I took the boys on a walk to the grocery store up the street and we explored everything the snow had iced over. Trace was so excited that snow and ice melt into water. He also asked me if Jack Frost and Snow Miser worked together (Snow Miser is off a new claymation Christmas movie).

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

It snowed last night all day today. I took the boys sledding with a friend and they had a blast! After about an hour Kaden was freezing and I had to give him my jacket and gloves for the car walk back, burr. Trace is for sure more of a snow lover than Kaden and I. Trace was sledding down hills faster than Jack Flash and Kaden made me hike up some of the largest hills to sled; he has no fear. Here are some photos!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Today the boys and I went downtown and participated in the Martin Luther King March! It was a wonderful event, there were groups singing and his old speeches being played. We walked the streets of Raleigh in his honor. The boys brought their book, Martin's Big Words, and read it while we walked. Kaden decided halfway through that he needed to ride on my shoulders while I pushed the wagon with Trace on board; I think I resembled a pack mule hiking across the Grand Canyon. Smore Please

Last night the boys and I decided to make smores in the fireplace since it has been 16 degrees here every night. Kaden dropped several in the fire; Trace did a pretty good job. He kept saying he was going to make the perfect smore and was careful not to catch his on fire. Kaden's favorite part was eating them. I think he liked setting the marsh-mellows on fire as well. It was an exciting event for them both, I can't wait for camping this Spring. Afterwards we curled up with our treats and ordered the new Batman movie on TV, the boys only lasted about 45 minutes before they crashed. Here are some photos.

To be fair (since the last post was all photos of Trace) here are some beautiful new photos of Kaden; I had them developed into 8 x 10's and framed. If anyone else wants one let me know, I would be happy to order them! Kaden is already riding a bike and a scooter. He surpassed Trace on those skills; Trace took awhile to get the hang of those. Kaden picked it up no problem.

Did I Give Trace Permission to Grow Up?

For all those far far away Grandparents, come while you can, soon there won't be a toddler feature left in Trace. Today he insisted I spike up his hair, he looked like a rocker and his teachers got a kick out of it. Here are some photos; he looks so old.........where does the time go? I posted a photo of him that was taken last Feb to compare. Where are the chubby cheeks? Where is the baby face? Where did my baby go?

Get Ready for Spring

The boys and I have decided to give growing a garden a shot this year. We are growing tomatoes, onions, and celery indoors, until it is time to move them outside (they have to grow indoors for 6-8 weeks first). Also we are growing lettuce, carrots, peppers, zucchini, and a few other things. Hopefully at least a few of our attempts will make it. I also got the boys window flower boxes; they are growing basil, rosemary, and oregano. Everyday they water them from their rooms. Right now we just have some plants in there; we are starting the herbs out in the house as well. The oregano is doing well already. The boys also got a bird feeder and we have been watching the birds. I put it in a tree between their windows so it is visible from both their rooms. I can't name all the birds so we have to go get a bird book sometime this week from the library because the boys found my lack of bird knowledge unacceptable. We do have a naughty squirrel who likes to eat the seeds; Kaden yells at him every morning and scares him away! Kaden is starting to talk really well and we are working on potty training (it is a slow process) . He loves to sing and dance and steals my heart daily. He is also learning his letters. Trace is working on reading; I can't believe how well he is doing. Last night at church someone said condo and he sounded it out and said "cccccoooonnn" and that is as far as he got. Maybe it was luck, maybe not, as a mom I say "no my child is a genius". He can do some three letter words and below, examples are: mom, toy, I, cat, no and a few others are ones he knows well. He tries every night to read the books I read to them both. Some he has memorized. Here are some photos of the boys trying out their green thumbs.
