Halloween Night

Oh to be a kid again. The boys racked up on candy and greeted every door with a "Trick or Treat" and a thank-you after candy was received. All of the neighbors were out and about so it was a fun group effort. One neighbor even toted the kids around on his riding lawn mower in a trailer attachment. It was a fun night and makes me look forward to all the Halloweens to come.

Trace's School Halloween Party

Today was Trace's Halloween party at school, and I was the room mom in charge of planning it (of course I picked the Halloween party :) We did pumpkin bowling, pin the tail on the cat, and made popcorn stuffed hands. We ate pizza and had a great time. At the end everyone got to take home either a witches broom or pumpkin treat bag (the broom ones took forever to make). Pin the tail on the cat was cute, but I suspect Trace cheated, he pinned it right on the X. I posted a few photos. Trace has two girls that he is very fond of, Grace and Jillian, so we took some photos of them together. Of course Landon was there too, he and Trace are good buddies. Trace didn't want fruit punch, he asked for water instead, so neither did Landon. It was cute. It is so sweet to see him making new friends. He is very social.

OBAMA RALLY!

Today the boys got to be a part of history. We went to an Obama rally in downtown Raleigh. It was inspiring and a time to remember. Trace and Kaden chanting "O-ba-ma", while wearing their Obama pins, hearing his voice echo through the courtyard, everything about it was amazing. Getting to actually see him and hear his voice was a time to remember. Hopefully one day they can look back at the photos and videos and say, "My Mom took me to see President Obama". Church Fall Festival

Saturday afternoon our church had a fall festival. I was in the kitchen making hot dogs for the preschool (with Trace helping from time to time) and the boys enjoyed hayrides and games. Here are some photos. Trace's good friend from school was there, Landon, and was attached to his hip. Landon's parents said Trace is all he talks about.

Halloween Party!

We hosted a Halloween party Saturday night. It was a success, we had about twenty guests. There was pizza, chocolate dipped rice crispy treat pops, candy galore, and goody bags. We played bobbing for apples, bobbing for worms, and Dead Sam. Bobbing for worms was done by placing gummy worms in cupcake tins and topping it with whipped cream, the person to get them all out first (using no hands) won. Dead Sam was done with bags of nasty food items (peeled grapes, ground beef, noodles, you get the idea) and the bags were passed around and the guests had to identify the body parts :) Before everyone left they made their apples they bobbed into candy apples. Kaden took his costume off and decided to wear his dragon costume from last year, such a funny kiddo. Trace was The Hulk. Here are some photo of the event! The What and Why Phase of Life

Trace has fully entered the what and why phase of life, "Mommy what do ducks do?", "Mommy what do trees do?", "Mommy what do people do?". Then when he gets his answer he is still digging for more. He amazes me daily with his knowledge. Yesterday he told me if there was a fire to stop, drop, and roll, then dial 991 (yes 991, not 911 but he gets and A for effort). He tells me owls are nocturnal and he brushes his teeth two days ( he means two times a day) so they won't fall out. He is curious about pollution and recycling. He loves computer games, Britt's I-touch games and wants a Nintendo DS (I am trying to avoid the DS because then we enter the expensive video game systems phase). I can't believe some of the games he can play, some of them I can't even do. Here is a photo of him playing a game before school this morning. In short my children never cease to amaze me.

Bat Kaden

This was so cute I just had to share. Kaden and I were goofing off the other day and here is the result. A prime example of blackmail material for when he is a teenager. Super hero's are big in the Kirby household these days. Kaden has the biggest imagination. Every morning I ask them if they had sweet dreams and what stories they dreamed last night. Kaden tells me funny amazing things. He may just make them up on the spot or maybe he really does dream them but none the less I love hearing them. The other day he said he dreamed about Spongebob, Patrick and a big giant crab (for all those who were lucky enough to miss the Sponge Bob Square Pants era consider yourselves lucky, its a Nick cartoon). Super hero's are big in the Kirby household these days as you can see from the photo. The favorites are Spiderman, The Hulk, and Batman.

Trace's 1st Choir Performance

Trace had his first performance this morning. They sang God Is So Good. He sang the entire time and was all smiles. We were so proud of him. He did such a wonderful job and afterwards we took him to his favorite place, CiCi's Pizza. His next performance is in November, I can't wait! Enjoy the video of his performance!

Working the Pumpkin Patch

Tonight we worked the pumpkin patch at church. Trace was in charge of handing out stickers to customers and Kaden helped Daddy take all the rotten pumpkins to the compost pile. We had a great time and the boys were excited to take home some pumpkins to carve on Halloween night. It was a great evening; we can't wait to work again next weekend!

Halloween Craft Time!

The past two nights the boys and I have been working on our first paper mache project, a Halloween candy holder. It was an involved process but well worth the effort. Trace had a lot of fun and Kaden did until he realized the balloon we used would not return. Trace is bringing it to school for show and tell next week with candy in it for his class. (its a black cat if you can't tell). HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Fall Fun

This weekend we went Bass Lake Day. The camera was forgotten but we had a blast. There were turtles, roosters, hens and goats to pet. Also a man had an array of pelts for the kids to explore, Trace and Kaden were not to fond of the pelts, especially the one that reminded Trace of Maslow.
We also help out with our local church pumpkin patch two weekends ago. They boys helped unload the pumpkin and were able to ride on the tractor. It was a lot of fun but I came down with strep throat that day so I was not feeling my best.

A Quick Note

Following Kathy's lead I have decided to make a blog so everyone can keep up with the current Kirby news and photos instead of overflowing email boxes. We have had some exciting new developments in the Kirby household over the past few month, Trace started preschool, joined choir, I started working for the church which in turn has made me a volunteer in addition to my paid position as well as my semester starting up in full force. Kaden is still my little bit with the highest metabolism I have ever seen, he is working on counting and the alphabet and Trace is working on writing his name! This month we have some exciting events: two Halloween party's, Trick-or-Treating, Trace's first Kids-N-Praise performance and much more. Enjoy!
